My 9 year old and I are going up to the mountains to do some hiking! I can't wait! There is nothing I love more than hiking and I'm so glad that my youngest loves it too! We'd looked into staying at a hotel, but the hotels in the area were all motels. Very expensive motels! The going rate for a 1-star motel was around $80. I tried to negotiate a better price at priceline.com, but I couldn't get a price that I was comfortable paying for a 1-star motel. So...we rented a small house that was very affordable. And I was able to negotiate a better price than what was published! I think it'll be perfect and very comfortable. There is a hot tub that we'll be able to enjoy after those long days of hiking, and also an outdoor fire place for some s'mores! (My son is very excited about both of these things!) We're going to be hiking on both the Appalachian Trail and the Benton Mackaye Trail. We're also going to go to Dahlonega to pan for gold and we're going to a couple of attractions in Atlanta.
One mistake that I made with our Winter Break trip was not having something planned to eat for dinner on the night we got back home. I remember spending so much money at the store that night getting easy, convenience foods. I've already planned ahead and we'll have Sloppy Joes on Saturday night and Steaks on Sunday night. Everything I need is on hand already, so that should eliminate a "panic trip" to the grocery store on Saturday evening!
So - that's what we're up to this week for Spring Break. I'll let you know more details of the trip next week and share a couple of pictures too!
